Summer is here. My relatives are in town and traditionally they serve to remind me, it's summer. I am designed for winter, but now that my brother and his son are here, there is someone to chase the paleta man, there is someone with a penchant for grilling in the backyard, there is a reason for iced colas and pitchers of sweet tea in the fridge and piles and pile of steaming flour tortillas. My brother offers rides, carries buckets of heavy cat litter up two flights of stairs and my nephew answers my countless questions as I try to decipher who this young man is. The basement gets cleared, there is someone strong enough to throw out the old couch, air conditioners are put in place and Sushi declines invitations to visit downstairs. I would like to take Jacob to see Arabian Nights at Lookingglass Theater if the two for one ticket offer still exists. He's a natural actor now more determined to make his mark as a wrestler. Video games get played til the wee hours, towels are left on the bathroom floor and I see firsthand that skid marks are not for the streets alone............
I sit in the company of a sibling who truly likes me, summer is here.
